Artist Reflects The Best of North Park

Frostys Charmer by Brocker Quarter Horses

Raising horses and making glass art are two of the best things about living in North Park.

There are so many inspiring ideas brought on by this beautiful place we live. My husband Gordon and I cattle ranched for years but have been just raising horses for awhile now. We have an AQHA stallion, Frostys Charmer, and a small band of mares we breed to him. I love spring when the foals are born and the mares softly nicker to their babies.

Watching foals strengthen their new long legs romping and playing with each other is such a treat. We sell colts for all sorts of disciplines but I most love when we see them turn out to be a beloved ranch horse. That means

they are versatile, like to work and hopefully like the

company of people, a result of all the time and handling

we put into them as youngsters.

Our horses are a big part of my glass art. You can see it in the glass ponies and the herds of glass horses I am working on now. And I like to create a western theme with the glass broncos on barnwood. I love the contemporary look of the glass with the contrast of the rustic wood.

I think glass is a wonderful medium to portray the beauty of horses and also their fragility. I never run out of ideas to try in my studio, which by the way, is located in the barn. I can work in my studio, without distracting "mama", while I'm waiting for a foal to make it's appearance.

I am also inspired to create wildflower plates, jewelry, ornaments and other small glass works.

**EDITORS NOTE**

Peg's artwork is not limited to glass designs. She is also pretty handy with a paintbrush and sewing machine. She paints in water colors and oils, as well as using pastels and charcoal mediums to create fine art. Her work has been showcased in numerous galleries and is sold at Artisans markets. Her glassware can be found at Zirkel Liquors on Main Street in Walden, CO. Peg also has a beautiful studio gift shop in her barn.
