Music Rooted In Beef Country

Students at North Park High are a talented group of individuals from the field to the classroom. A new guitar class has expanded their opportunities through music education in the school district. You may recognize some of these students as stellar athletes we've bragged about over the last months basketball season. Today we share their music success of their rookie year in Guitar Class at NPHS. The class is taught by Nancy BeYea and advised by Superintendent, Dr. Robert Fulton.

March is "Music in Our Schools Month" and students have been playing their hearts out many mornings in the school lobby as a welcome to those entering the building first thing each day. Here on WaldenColorado.com we are celebrating "Beef in North Park" so we found it only fitting to combine the two themes and ask the guitar class to play a few country tunes for us.

The success of this class is inspiring to the music program at North Park, which offers a K-12 music program. The middle and high school bands play in a combined effort to boost pride in the school. A favorite by many adults and youngsters alike is the Violin Class taken by Fourth Graders. Also offered are a choir and elementary music program. A Guitar Club is hosted once a week as well outside of school hours to encourage a love of music education.

The music program puts on quite a show and will perform and/or compete at a variety of events outside of North Park now that our numbers have grown to a competition level. Upcoming events include the Spring Concert (May 3rd) and Music In The Park (May 17th). Music in the Park is a fundraiser for the music program. The $5.00 admission will get you great entertainment and supper. You are invited to bring your lawn chair and enjoy the Variety Show audition winners, some duets, ensembles, the violin ensemble, choir and band. More details on this event will be shared soon.

Over the Fourth of July, selected 8th graders, as incoming Freshman, have the opportunity to participate during the summer in a Masonic High School Band Camp Scholarship program. At this time, Jazmine Martinez, a selected NPHS band member, will be marching on the University of Northern Colorado's field. This camp will culminate by participating in the Greeley Rocky Mountain Stampede Parade on July 4, 2017.

We are proud to showcase these talented individuals from our high school music program and encourage you to attend their events and share your love and support of music education in our schools.
