Wildebeest Spotted In Kings Canyon

Colorado Bowhunters Association Logo

There's exotic wildlife turned loose in Kings Canyon. Not to worry, these 3D wildlife targets are strategically placed for a good cause and a fun event taking place this weekend.

For over 30 years the Colorado Bow Hunters Association has been coming to North Park to host 3D shoot for archery enthusiasts. It began near Lake John, but moved to the Kings Canyon area about 20 years ago. The shoot is located up the Village Belle Road just north of Kings Canyon. This 3D shoot is now the largest in Colorado and much anticipated by participants that return.

This family friendly event has become a big part of our summer fun in Jackson County. The local 4H shooting sports program has become an integral part of the event. 4H youth in the archery program help to set up 3D targets over the mile-long course that takes participants on a nice hike through a mountain setting of Aspen and Pines. Antelope, turkey, bear and wild hogs are just a few of the 3D species found at varying distances and angles. The 4H youth are invited to participate at no charge as a way to encourage their involvement in the sport. The 4H Shooting Sports also provide concessions so participants have food available to fuel their trips around the course.

Kings Canyon 3D Shoot

The 3D shoot is a fundraiser for the Colorado Bow Hunters Association to help them operate their organization. The mission of the CBA is to promote the sport of bowhunting, improve bowhunting opportunities and work with state and federal agencies to preserve the sport and wildlife. They work hard to advocate policies that support the mission of their organization and are found lobbying for hunting and wildlife conservation.

A silent auction is held in conjunction with the shoot, offering some fantastic items participants can bid on and potential win. CBA members have spent the last week preparing for the event and invite the public to join them Saturday and Sunday for the #1 3D shoot in Colorado. Cost is $30 for a non-member and $20 for a CBA member. Youth 14 and under shoot free.

If you have questions regarding the Colorado Bowhunters Association or the 3D shoot at Kings Canyon please contact Dan 970-484-5926 or John 970-218-0580. Pack up your bows and head to the range this weekend for a wonderful time for a good cause.
