Celebrate Dad and Feed Your Soul

We celebrate Dads today for all they do and what an instrumental role they play in our lives. The spiritual community of North Park has a special Father’s Day Service in the Park annually, and today marks the 9th year of the event.

The entire community pitches in to make this time-honored tradition a joyous celebration by sharing a message, enjoy worship and partaking in a fellowship meal after. The Christian Life Church is preparing sloppy Joes and BBQ Chicken as the main course, while attendees are invited to bring a side dish to go along with the meat.

The message and music is led by Pastor Tim Durmont of the North Park Baptist Church this year. All the churches come together and take turns leading the annual event. There is a lot of fun and food, both for the soul and appetite.

The Fathers Day Service in the park begins at 11:00 AM in Hanson Park. Please bring your own folding chairs and celebrate Dad.

In the United States, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June, but the holiday honors the duty of fathers everywhere. Other countries that celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June include Afghanistan, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and more. However, other dates for Father’s Day are held throughout the year, too.

More than 60 countries throughout the world celebrate Father’s Day. Typical celebrations include attending church, going out to eat, and giving gifts to fathers and grandfathers. Gifts usually include cards.

Modern Father’s Day celebrations started in the early 20th century in the United States, but the idea of celebrating fathers can be traced to the Middle Ages with St. Joseph’s Day.
